The Municipality of Torres Novas challenged EDIGMA to envision, design, and implement an archaeological exhibition space that enhances an immersive experience, attracting and engaging visitors of all ages. The result is extraordinary.
The space unfolds over two floors, offering an experience that is both immersive and educational. On the Ground Floor, the exhibition “A River, a Territory, a Human History” guides visitors through the narrative of the Almonda River, from Prehistory to the end of the Middle Ages. On the first floor, the short-term exhibition “Archaeology of the Almonda: a window onto half a million years of history” highlights exceptional discoveries, such as the fossil human skull ARO3, which is 400,000 years old, making it one of the oldest human fossils in Western Europe. Additionally, the Workshop on the Ground Floor provides a unique view of the inventorying work of the archaeological collection, accessible by appointment.
From the interactive timeline that leads us through various periods and epochs to the motion-controlled projection model where we can navigate the archaeological map, there are several technological solutions that allow the most curious visitors to dive into diverse layers of knowledge.
