Past, Present and Future

What if a space dedicated to a city’s history could do more than reflect its past and present, what if it could also bring its future to life? What if it could truly engage visitors, move them, and create a lasting connection? With these ambitions in mind, Turismo de Lisboa set out to transform the Lisboa Story Centre.

Located in the heart of the city, the space aimed to evolve from a traditional exhibition into a more dynamic experience, one that could meet the expectations of increasingly demanding, interaction-driven audiences.

EDIGMA played a central role in this transformation, leading the concept, creative direction, project management, and implementation. Rather than focusing solely on technology, the goal was to rethink the entire visitor journey, ensuring that every moment felt meaningful, intuitive, and memorable. Recognizing the need to deepen engagement and foster emotional connections across diverse audiences, the approach placed people at the center of the experience.

Throughout the journey, visitors are invited to explore Lisbon in an active way, through interactive content that weaves together past, present, and future. Various touchpoints reveal both historical and imagined perspectives of the city, while digital solutions, such as interactive tables and real-time projections turn each choice into a personalized experience.

One of the most striking moments is the recreation of the 1755 earthquake. Through a powerful blend of scenography, sound, lighting, and technology, it becomes an immersive, multi-sensory experience. Vibrating platforms, synchronized audio, and visual effects convey the event’s impact with remarkable realism, intensifying its emotional resonance.

At the same time, the integration of real-time data introduces a new way of understanding the city, allowing visitors to see Lisbon as a living, ever-evolving organism. This layer adds a contemporary dimension to the experience, making it more relevant and aligned with today’s urban dynamics and challenges.

The result is a cohesive experience where content, technology, and storytelling come together to create a compelling and distinctive journey, demonstrating how cultural spaces can be transformed into engaging environments that deepen audience connection and enhance the value of the space itself.
