The Manuel Barroco Contemporary Art Center opens in Mogadouro as a new cultural hub dedicated to celebrating the work of one of Portugal’s most prominent contemporary sculptors. Established through a collaboration agreement with the Municipality of Mogadouro and the sculptor himself—who donated his artistic estate for permanent exhibition—the center positions itself as a key venue in Portugal’s interior for the appreciation and interpretation of contemporary sculpture.
The museographic intervention developed by EDIGMA was based on an integrated vision that combines the preservation of the building’s architectural heritage with innovative interactive and technological solutions. The exhibition journey features multimedia content, audiovisual projections about the life and work of Manuel Barroco, a holographic exploration point for three-dimensional visualization of the sculptures, and exhibition sections designed to invite visitors into a contemporary and engaging experience.
The project was conceived to highlight not only the sculptural collection but also the relationship between art, the territory, and the local community, reinforcing Mogadouro’s cultural identity. By placing the visitor at the center of the narrative, the center encourages a contemporary dialogue with Manuel Barroco’s work and with its roots in the Trás-os-Montes region.
