An Immersive Experience in the Médio Tejo
The Intermunicipal Community of Médio Tejo (CIM Médio Tejo) has launched an innovative initiative to bring people closer to the history and cultural heritage of the region: the Templar Route. This project dives into the legacy of the Templars in Médio Tejo, offering immersive and interactive digital experiences.
To bring this vision to life, CIM Médio Tejo trusted EDIGMA, who developed the technological tools for an enhanced visitor experience. The project includes a virtual tour of Almourol Castle, a multimedia projection at the Convent of Christ, as well as a website, mobile app, 360º virtual tours, games for young audiences, and multilingual content, making the Templar Route accessible to visitors worldwide.
At the Templar Interpretation Center in Almourol, visitors can enjoy a 360º immersive experience, dynamically exploring the historical content using the interactive equipment provided.
In the Convent of Christ, a visually rich projection onto a 3D topographic model brings the historic Siege of Tomar to life, allowing visitors to engage with this captivating narrative in an impactful way.
The website, templarportugal.com, organizes the visitor experience around four themed routes — military, religious, symbolic, and architectural — tailored to different visitor interests. Beyond the main Templar routes, the site highlights additional points of interest in the region. It also includes travel planning tools, a favorites system, and an interactive map that helps visitors create personalized itineraries showcasing the key sites of the Templar Route.
The mobile app, available for Android and iOS, includes features like the Digital Passport, which allows visitors to check in near historical monuments and receive a digital stamp for their virtual passport, and a themed Photobooth, where users can take photos with custom frames to share on social media.
To make learning engaging and fun, the project also includes online games like quizzes, memory games, puzzles, and “Templar’s Conquest,” all available on both the website and app, providing an interactive way to explore Templar history.
Another highlight of the project is the 11 immersive 360º virtual tours, offering users a detailed exploration of historic Templar sites along the Route.
